Position: Staff Carpenter @ Bay Street Theater - Summer 2025

Compensation: $18/hr (+ 1.5x Overtime above 40 hrs/week)

Reports to: Technical Director, Assistant Technical Director, Lead Carpenter

Location: The Assistant Technical Director position is on-site, in Sag Harbor, NY and Riverhead, NY. Housing is provided.

Schedule: The work schedule is determined by Technical Director and Asst. Technical Director. This position requires regular evening and weekend work in conjunction with BST’s performance calendar. This is a seasonal position.

End Date of Employment: September 7, 2025

Duties and Responsibilities

The BST mainstage season features the mounting of 4 productions and other special events. The Staff Carpenter follows policies and practices that ensure the highest levels of safety and responsible usage. The Staff Carpenter works with the coordinated scenic team to ensure smooth productions that come in on- time and on-budget. This post requires regular evening and weekend work in conjunction with BST’s performance calendar.

The Staff Carpenter’s general responsibilities will include:

PRE and POST SEASON

- Assist in the setup of scenic shop for beginning of season

- Assist in the restoration and cleanup of scenic shop at the end of the season

MAINSTAGE SEASON

- Assist in the construction and installation for all Mainstage productions

- Assist in coordinating the purchase of materials for the construction of all scenic elements

- Assist in the construction of sets to ensure design completion and labor efficiency to balance budget necessities with design integrity

- Actively participate in scenic load-in and load-outs.

- Assist with equipment maintenance timetables and checklists that ensure shop equipment is properly maintained in good working order, that equipment is regularly tested, and that replacement equipment and stock is ordered as needed.

ADDITIONAL SPECIAL EVENTS

- Assist in the coordination and build of scenic needs for all other BST events including, but not limited to concerts, comedian performances, galas, and other special events/projects as needed
