Shake the Disease
a new play by Leif Larson
directed by Matthew Pezzulich

Queer history and violence.

Please note that any request for intimacy, violence, and undress will be discussed to a play that is safe and within any actor's boundaries. An intimacy/fight coordinator will be involved in the rehearsal process.

Additionally, we are seeking to create a room that is Queer positive and safe, primarily seeking Queer Artists interested in sharing Queer stories.
Role 1: RIVER/NICKLAUS/GARRETT [Role Requires Onstage Intimacy, Violence, and Undress]
RIVER (20s, male-presenting, any race): Server at the resort restaurant; doubles as NICKLAUS (Peter’s Lover) and GARRETT (a filmmaker). RIVER possesses a mischievous innocence. He is mercurial and goes where he wants. NICKLAUS is steadfast. Loyal and intuitive. GARRETT is an auteur. Provocative and visionary.
*Non-binary and gender non-conforming performers are especially encouraged to submit for the role of River.*

Role 2: KEITH/DAVID [Role Requires Onstage Intimacy, Violence, and Undress]
KEITH (20s, male, any race): Head cook at Resort Restaurant; doubles as DAVID (an actor). Keith is deeply closeted. Sensitive, but guarded. David is a Radical Faery and Garrett’s eager and enthusiastic acolyte.

Role 3: KURT/ANSEL [Role Requires Onstage Intimacy, Violence, and Undress]
KURT (20s, male, any race): Line cook. Keith’s brother; doubles as ANSEL (an actor). Kurt is feral with an animalistic sensuality. He is cocky, dangerous and deeply homophobic. Ansel is empathetic and sensitive, but aggressive and dominant when pushed or provoked.

Role 4: PETER/BIG EARL [Role Requires Onstage Intimacy, Violence, and Undress]
PETER (40s-50s, male, white): Resort Owner; doubles as BIG EARL (a stablehand). Peter is a wealthy entrepreneur. Although whittled to the bone by late-stage AIDS, he still exudes an extravagant flamboyance, and will not go quietly. Big Earl is solitary, backwards and misunderstood. His presence garners the revulsion of a 80’s horror villain.

Role 5: LESLIE/BAMBI SNAKE LESLIE (30s-50s, female, any race): Resort Manager; doubles as BAMBI SNAKE (A trans activist). Leslie is business minded. No-nonsense and practical, with a maternal streak. Bambi is a radical activist, unapologetically militant and revolutionary.
We are specifically seeking trans women to submit for the role of Leslie/Bambi Snake.
