Danse Theatre Surreality is casting for Shadowboxing in Blue, an immersive performance blending dance, boxing, and live music to explore themes of depression, survival, and mental health. The October run will take place in Brooklyn, NY and includes community boxing therapy workshops.
We are hiring interdisciplinary performers with experience or interest in:
– Contemporary dance
– Boxing or martial arts
– Acting or physical theatre
– Live music performance
Ideal candidates are expressive, collaborative, and physically comfortable. BIPOC artists, a range of body types, and performers across ages are strongly encouraged to apply.
Rehearsals begin mid-July and are held weekly on Thursdays (morning or afternoon), with additional select Sunday rehearsals. Boxing class (required, free) is offered Fridays at 3:30pm or Saturdays at 11:15am. Performances are held on Saturdays in October.
If unable to attend in-person auditions on Wednesday, July 17 (10:30am–12pm) in Brooklyn, you may submit a virtual audition (link to footage). Selected virtual applicants will be invited to attend a rehearsal as a supplemental audition.
Pay: $20/hour. Boxing training is included at no cost to performers.
