The Metropolitan Opera is seeking female children between the ages of 6 – 16 with strong dance and acting ability for rehearsals and performances of a new production of Salome in the early spring of 2025 through the end of May 2025.

Seeking: 6 – 12 girls to perform or cover all performances. Children will portray younger versions of the singer performing the role of Salome. Children should have strong technical skills in both ballet and contemporary and should be able to learn and retain choreography.

*Children must be 6 years of age before January 1, 2025.

The child actors must be available for all rehearsals and performances.

Due to the height specificity of these roles, casting decisions will be finalized during this callback.

Staging rehearsal Start Date:

March 27, 2025 – April 14 – “room rehearsals”

As scheduled, Monday – Saturday. Some daytime rehearsals will be required. Some may be during school hours. Children will not be called every day but must be available when called to rehearse.

April 15, 10:30 – 1:30, Stage with piano

April 22, 10:00-1:30, Stage with orchestra

April 23, 10:00-1:30, Piano Dress Rehearsal

April 25 10:0 – 1:30, FINAL DRESS REHEARSAL

*The Children may or may not be called to every stage rehearsal. Weekly schedules are available by Saturday each week for the following week. Changes may be made up to 6:00pm in the evening before the rehearsal.

Please note: Additional hours may be added to rehearsals when necessary for tutoring when children miss school due to the rehearsal calls.

Administrative information

All children will be required to have a Child Performer Permit from the Department of Labor. This is a free application and can be completed online for the first time 15-day permit.

Children will be paid at a rate of $16/hour for all measurements, fittings, rehearsals and tutoring. Performance fee will be at least $500/performance regardless of performer or cover status.
