PROTOTYPE Festival Internship - January 2025
PROTOTYPE: Opera|Theatre|Now, the annual festival of global opera-theatre and music-theatre works co-produced by Beth Morrison Projects and HERE Arts Center, is seeking paid interns to assist in all areas of the world-renowned festival. Interns will support both artistic and administrative operations, gaining valuable experience in producing and arts administration.
Internship Duration:
- January 2 - 20, 2025 (with potential hours in December)
Core Responsibilities:
Interns will be assigned to one or more of the following teams: Producing/Company Management, Production, Marketing, Development, or Touring. Duties may include:
- Attending technical rehearsals, load-ins, and strikes
- Handling front of house and company management/artist relations
- Supporting cultivation events, box office, and front-of-house roles (ushering, etc.)
- Assisting with administrative tasks (errands, paperwork, receipt management)
Specific Roles:
Want to gain skills around the overall organizing and backbone of a production? Consider applying for the Producing/Company Management/General Management Intern positions:
- Assist in creating daily schedules and supporting administrative tasks
- Attend rehearsals, load-ins, and strikes
- Help prepare artist welcome packets and gifts
- Support box office and ushering duties during performances
Want to gain skills around the technical side of a production? Consider applying for the Production Intern position:
- Provide hands-on support during rehearsals, load-ins, strikes, and productions
- Ideal for aspiring stage managers, designers, and technicians
Want to learn how to get the word out and promote ideas about a new performance and festival? Consider applying for the Marketing Intern position:
- Assist with social media content creation and copywriting
- Capture behind-the-scenes content
- Knowledge of Photoshop is a plus; Canva is required
Want to learn about how to raise money and execute special donor facing events? Consider applying for the Development/Fundraising Intern:
- Support administrative tasks related to charitable giving
- Greet donors and assist with front of house, ticketing, and donor event setup
Want to learn about how shows presented at Prototype go on to tour the world and interact with the larger presenting model? Consider applying for the Touring Intern position:
- Assist the Director of Touring with conference schedules and meetings
- Support Presenter Meetings during APAP and ISPA conferences
Internships are tailored to individual interests and strengths based on availability and experience.
Qualifications:
- Current students, recent graduates, or early-career professionals
- Background in performing arts and an interest in arts administration
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills
- Positive, professional attitude and comfort working with the public
- Additional skills (optional but beneficial): interest in opera or music-theatre, abilty to read music, backstage/wardrobe experience, familiarity with marketing/social media, or fundraising
Schedule & Compensation:
- Duration: January 2 - 20, 2025 (with potential December dates)
- Full availability and flexibility required during the 18 day period
- In-person work at theater spaces and the PROTOTYPE office in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, with some virtual work
- Compensation: $16.50/hour for 30-40 hours/week, plus an unlimited NYC MetroCard for the duration
