Testing: If you are offered a role, you must be willing to take a COVID test as documentation of a negative test result is required 72 hours prior to first rehearsal. Profile will provide and/or pay for this and any additional tests necessary to the scope of participation.
Antoinette “Toni” Lafayette - The oldest, white, late 40s/early 50s - Toni is going through a difficult time. She’s split with her husband, her son has been getting into trouble, and she lost her job as a school principal. To top it off, her son wants to go live with his dad. She’s protective and a care-taker, but years of self-sacrifice for others has left her bitter, reckless, and cruel. The self-professed “villain” of the family, judgemental and aggressive.
Rhys Thurston - Antoinette's son, white, late teens - Rhys was recently caught selling drugs to a student who died from an overdose. He’s much like his mom -- bitter and sometimes honest to the point of cruelty -- but normally just keeps it to himself.
Beauregarde “Bo” Lafayette - The middle, white, late 40s/early 50s - Bo is solution-oriented and committed to resolving the estate -- but he might complain about it later. He is easily swayed in attempts to keep the peace as a passive moderator between his siblings, and would rather just send a check -- and complain about it later.
Rachael Kramer-Lafayette - Bo's wife, white, late 40s - Rachael never had a great relationship with Bo’s father, which she attributes to her Jewish heritage, and is terrified of what her children might learn about him. She is reasonable, but everyone has their limits -- and Toni might just test them during this trip.
Cassidy “Cassie” Kramer-Lafayette - Bo and Rachael's oldest child, white, early teens. Cassidy wishes that she were just a little bit older so everyone would take her more seriously. She’s curious and inquisitive, but often dismissed, which can get her into trouble.
Ainsley Kramer-Lafayette - Bo and Rachael's youngest child, white, 8 years old. Ainsley, the hyperactive child of Rachael and Bo, who doesn’t seem to listen to his mother’s instructions has no scripted lines in the play, but shocks the family unintentionally when he finds something that belongs to his late grandfather.
Francois “Franz/Frank” Lafayette - the youngest, white, late 30s/early 40s - Frank has been in Portland, Oregon after changing his name and disappearing years ago. With encouragement from his young fiance, he is looking to apologize to his family and move on from his hidden past.
River Rayner - Frank's fiancee, white, early 20s but looks younger. River (not her real name) is an easy target for Toni, who hates her almost as much as she hates Frank, but River can take a verbal punch. She appears to be driven by spirituality and healing, but as the daughter of lawyers and a sharp listener, she may have ulterior motives for her encouragement.
DEAN / DEVIN - Extra-late 20s, “white” - Dean is Nan’s assistant. He has been with the magazine for five years, and is writing a memoir about magazine life in New York City. He’s bitter about youth, his own lack of success in comparison to others, and is hungover more days at the office than not. // Devin is the IT guy at the television station. This is the only job he’s ever had. He has a “bad attitude”, according to Rashaad.
KENDRA / JENNA - Mid-late 20s, “Asian” - Kendra is a Harvard graduate, straight-forward (even when it doesn’t serve her), and likes her coffee. She rants about people behind their backs, but willing to confront them to their face. She intimidates her supervisor, Elizabeth, who won’t fire her so she won’t go move up higher in the corporate ladder somewhere else. // Jenna is Callie’s boss at the television station.
ANI / SASHA / CALLIE - Early 20s, “white” - Ani has been at the magazine for a year. She’s Arthur’s assistant, “polite”. // Sasha is Nan’s colleague who meets with Nan at Starbucks. // Callie loves her job and is a “book nerd”. Has been around for two years.
GLORIA / NAN - Extra-late 30s, “anything really” -- Gloria is the “office freak”, “an emotional terrorist”. But actually just a normal woman from Florida who brings her lunch from home and works hard. // Nan is the department VP who goes on to write a memoir which becomes the most “interesting” version of the Gloria story that it gets a tv deal.
MILES / SHAWN / RASHAAD - 20 years old, “black” - Miles is a sweet, likable guy. He arrives to work early and is polite and patient. He’s not so sure what he wants to do in his career. // Shawn is a Starbucks barista. He is talkative and friendly, but also observant and even chivalrous. // Rashaad was an assistant turned VP after optioning Instagram accounts, so he’s young and in charge of the department. He is juggling being a young supervisor and knowing how to interact with his new, older temp assistant, Lorin.
LORIN - Late 30s, “unclear” - Lorin is Head Factchecker, and has been around for a long time. His recent promotion didn’t make him any happier, and he is not sure why he is doing this work. His sexual orientation and race has been subject to office debate. Lorin has a BA in French (but is not French) but “should have been a lawyer” - and maybe it’s not too late.
