Job Description


Job Title: Artist-in-Residence and Early Childhood Arts Educator + “Astor Stars” Performance

Location: Greater Ann Arbor, MI

Duration: 12 weeks (November 1 - January 31)


Job Summary:

Our organization is seeking a talented and passionate performer (artist, musician, actor, director, etc.) to join us as an Artist-in-Residence and Early Childhood Arts Educator for a 12-week program. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing an arts-centered, arts-forward curriculum for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years, while showcasing your expertise in your respective artistic field. You will be provided with local housing in Chelsea, MI (a suburb of Ann Arbor, MI) during your stay, and the opportunity to perform in a culminating “Broadway Under the Stars” performance at a local amphitheater.


Responsibilities:

  • Implement an age-appropriate arts-centered curriculum for children aged 6 weeks to 5 years that aligns with the organization's mission and goals

  • Conduct daily classes and activities that engage children in creative expression and promote their artistic development

  • Collaborate with the organization's staff to incorporate music, movement, theater, and other art forms into the curriculum

  • Provide instruction and guidance to parents and caregivers on how to support their child's artistic growth at home

  • Participate in weekly meetings and professional development sessions to improve teaching practices and ensure program success

  • Showcase your expertise in your respective artistic field through public performances, demonstrations, and workshops

  • Maintain a safe and healthy learning environment that meets or exceeds licensing requirements and industry standards

  • Assist with other program-related tasks as needed


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Performing Arts, Music, Fine Arts, Education, Early Childhood Development, etc)

  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more artistic disciplines (e.g., visual arts, music, theater, dance, etc.)

  • Teaching experience with young children in an arts-centered environment (a plus, not required)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and children

  • Passion for early childhood education and promoting creativity in young children

  • Ability to design and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate curriculum that aligns with organizational goals and mission

  • Experience as a nanny or providing childcare is a plus
