Organization Description:

Founded in 2003, The Tank is a multi-disciplinary non-profit arts presenter and producer, which provides a home to emerging artists working across all disciplines, including theater, comedy, dance, film, music, puppetry, and storytelling. Led by Artistic Director Meghan Finn, Director of Artistic Development Johnny G. Lloyd, and Managing Producer Molly FitzMaurice, The Tank champions emerging artists engaged in the pursuit of new ideas and forms of expression. In doing so the company removes the economic barriers from the creation of new work for artists launching their careers and experimenting within their art form. From the company’s home with two theaters on 36th Street, The Tank serves over 3,000 artists every year, presents 800-1000 performances, and welcomes an average of 36,000 audience members annually. The company fully produces a curated season of 10-18 theatrical World or New York premieres each season.

Position Overview:

The Office Manager is The Tank’s air traffic controller: this role is key to our ability to manage relationships and workflows among staff, artists, producing partners, and audience members.

The Office Manager: manages The Attic, The Tank’s sixth floor rehearsal spaces; manages our front of house, intern, and volunteer teams; and coordinates internal calendars and operations.

The ideal Office Manager feels energized by collaboration and dialogue but also thrives working independently to project manage multiple initiatives. They love to optimize efficient systems and plow through a check-list. Passionate about communication, details, and follow-through, they are excited to support emerging artists as part of a small, dynamic team. The Tank operates on a shared leadership model, and this position reports to the Managing Producer, Artistic Director, and Director of Artistic Development.


  • Manage The Attic, The Tank’s sixth floor rehearsal spaces:

    • Manage The Attic space calendar, including but not limited to: scheduling Core Production and Presented show rehearsals, external rentals, and public events in The Attic.

    • Liaise with artists and groups using the space; field rental requests and questions.

    • Ensure rental contract compliance, including tracking and processing rental fees.

    • Maintain The Attic facilities, including resetting rooms, tracking inventory, and light tidying.

  • Manage Tank front of house, intern, and volunteer teams:

    • Supervise front of house staff: schedule box office and livestream operator shifts; lead monthly front of house meetings; and hire new staff as needed.

    • Recruit, schedule, and supervise volunteers.

    • With Managing Producer, interview, hire, and train interns for each fall, winter/spring, and summer cycle.

    • Coordinate The Tank’s internship program: build intern schedules; supervise interns as their point person; support interns in learning about a small nonprofit performing arts organization.

  • Coordinate internal calendars and operations:

    • Support Tank staff in coordinating and streamlining scheduling, including but not limited to:

    • Manage the Attic, Box Office, Livestream, Intern, and Volunteer schedules, as above.

    • Assist Artistic Director and Director of Artistic Development in updating and maintaining the programming calendar.

    • Track grants and development calendar; create agendas for and attend weekly development meetings and administratively support development as needed.

    • Manage office and front of house inventory: track, restock, and store office, facilities, and concessions supplies.

  • Participate in our team as a member of The Tank full-time staff:

  • Actively participate in The Tank’s ongoing practice to make The Tank an explicitly anti-racist and anti-oppressive organization and a welcoming, generative space.

  • Steward The Tank as a home for emerging artists, embodying our mission and values, including kindness, sense of humor, and all-hands-on-deck attitude.

  • Actively participate in weekly all-staff meetings and individual weekly and quarterly check-ins.

  • Alongside Tank staff, contribute to maintenance of our spaces.

  • Support planning and production Tank special events, including the annual gala.

  • Develop proficiency in our platforms, including Google Suite, AudienceView Professional (formerly ovationtix), Squarespace, social media.

This is an entry-level, full-time, in-office position, with a starting salary in the low 40s. Employees may join The Tank's health insurance plan (currently Oxford United Healthcare); if you opt to enroll, The Tank will pay for 50% of the plan’s premium, with the remaining 50% deducted, pre-tax, from the employee’s paycheck each pay period. Hours are primarily weekday, 10am-6pm office hours with occasional evening and weekend hours surrounding significant events. This is an on-site position at The Tank on 36th Street. We offer two weeks paid vacation annually, in addition to 15 paid nationally observed holidays.
