Ghostlight Theater Camp is an overnight theater camp in Oakland, ME for ages 9-17. The Lighting Designer works alongside other camp staff to provide a summer of theater, creativity, and community for our campers. Designers live and work at Ghostlight’s beautiful campus in the Belgrade Lake Region of Maine and are provided with meals and housing. We operate two three-week sessions and a concurrent 10-day session for younger campers.
The Lighting Designer will:
- Serve as designer and electrician for up to four indoor shows per three-week session and assist with up to three outdoor shows per three-week session (minimal lighting elements)
- Teach one class per session focused on lighting design
- Supervise a Technical Associate who works full time in the theater with the Scenic and Lighting Designers; supervise counselors assisting with lighting
- Work with Ghostlight’s tech campers (3-5 campers per session)
- Assist in overall camp operations including occasional evening activities, arrival days, and departure days.
- Attend daily staff meetings and participate in staff training
- Participate in at least one design meeting for each show prior to arrival at camp, and create preliminary designs prior to arrival at camp
Experience:
- Masters Degree (Preferred) or Bachelors Degree (Required)
- Professional Lighting Design, Theater Production, or related Design Experience: 3+ years (Preferred)
- Teaching Experience with ages 9-17 (Preferred)
Compensation:
- $5,500 summer salary plus room, board, and a travel stipend
