Actors with solid voice and movement training adept at Shakespeare. Stage combat training a plus.


KING LEAR may be a tragedy, but a sense of humor is mandatory.


Age ranges are not specified; we must believe the children and parents are appropriate to each other;
Kent and Gloucester should be somewhat nearer Lear in age.


Kent - Lear's counselor (may be played by male or female)

Gloucester - Father (or Mother) to Edgar and Edmund (may be played by a male or female)

Edmund - Gloucester's bastard son

Lear - (CAST)

Goneril - Lear's eldest daughter

Regan - Lear's second daughter

Cordelia - Lear's youngest daughter

Albany - husband to Goneril

Cornwall - husband to Regan

France/Others - male or female

Burgundy/Others - male or female

Edgar - Gloucster's legitimate son

Oswald - servant to Goneril (male or female)

Fool - Lear's mirror (male or female)
