Overview:

Life Jacket Theatre Company (The Gorgeous Nothings, America is Hard to See, Gorey) is seeking a dynamic team of highly motivated individuals with a passion for research, theatre, storytelling, and the undertold story. The team will meet once a week via Zoom between September 15, 2020 to December 15, 2020 to present individual research findings on specific assigned topics related to THE GORGEOUS NOTHINGS, our new play about a group of gay men, trans women, and crossdressers unjustly imprisoned in NYC during the 1920s-1930s for committing “lewd and unnatural acts” (New York Penal Law 722, Section 690). Qualifications:

We are seeking individuals who are currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate program in the United States or abroad. We are particularly interested in students pursing degrees in theatre, performance studies, queer history, ethnography, or related disciplines. Successful candidates will:

1. Possess high levels of motivation, enthusiasm, and openness

2. Demonstrate in-depth research and organizational skills

3. Have previous experience using research databases and archives

4. Possess the ability to work independently, quickly, and efficiently

5. Embrace the opportunity to tackle a wide variety of research topics

6. Engage, communicate, and exchange information clearly and concisely

A working knowledge of LGBTQ+ history, African American history, and/or NYC history is preferred but not required.
