Maggie’s Little Theater at St. Margaret Parish will be holding auditions for their 2026 Spring Production of Don't Drink the Water by Woody Allen.

Seeking All Roles:

Axel Magee - An American foreign diplomat who only went into the business due to his father rather than his actual talent in art. He has a tendency to ramble, especially when nervous. He falls in love with Susan during the play. Must be able to play early 20s to early 30s.

Walter Hollander - A caterer from Newark, New Jersey. He is married to Marion and is the father of Susan and Seth. He causes his family to become trapped in the American embassy after he takes pictures of a high security area. He is very loud and abrasive but he can be kind when he wants to. Must be able to play mid to late 40s to 50s.

Marion Hollander - Walter's homemaker wife and the mother of Susan and Seth, she too is somewhat inappropriate but she's much kinder then Walter. Must be able to play mid to late 40s to 50s.

Susan Hollander - Walter and Marion's beautiful daughter who falls in love with Axel. Must be able to play mid 20s .

Father/Sister Drobney - A priest/nun hiding out in the embassy for 6 years with a love of magic tricks. He is the narrator of the play. Actor will be performing a strong amount of physical humor. Must be able to play 40s to 50s. Accent will be used

Kilroy - Ambassador Magee's stuck-up assistant who is much more competent at his job then Axel (could be female). Mid 30s to 40s.

Krojack - The head of the Communist police who traps the Hollanders in the embassy. Must be able to play late 30s to late 40s. Heavy eastern European accent used. Actor will be performing a strong amount of physical humor.

Burns - An assistant working at the embassy (could be female). Clean cut, efficient, organized almost to a fault. Mid to Late 40s.

Ambassador Magee - Axel's father who is the ambassador of the unnamed country and the head of the embassy. Loud, in charge with little patience. Actor will be performing a strong amount of physical humor. Must be able to play mid to late 40s to 50s+.

Chef - The embassy's chef, who consistently butts heads with Walter. STRONG ROLE FOR CHARACTER ACTOR, some physical humor required. Accent will be used. Role may be doubled with other role. Mid 30s to late 40s

Sultan of Bashir - Visiting dignitary to the embassy. Role may be doubled with member of Communist police. Heavy accent used. Age open.

Sultan's wife - Wife to Sultan of Bashir. Role may be doubled with other role.

Kasnar - Embassy party attendant, Role may be doubled with member of Communist police as well as extra role Age open.

Countess Bordoni - Embassy party attendant, Role may be doubled with other role. Age open.

Ensemble - Krojack's thugs, sous chef, party guests etc.

All auditions will be held at Maggie's Little Theater

at St. Margaret Parish,

66-11 79th Place, Middle Village, NY

Monday, November 17th - 7:30 - 9:30pm
Tuesday, November 18th - 7:30 - 9:30pm
Sunday, November 23rd - 1-4pm

Performance dates:
March 8, 14, 15, 21 & 22, 2026

Notes:

Auditionees may be asked to read singly or with others.

If necessary, auditionees may be asked to return for a call back.

We ask that you be respectful of the other auditionees and maintain a quiet attitude.

Maggie’s Little Theater generally rehearses on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 7:30-10pm and on Sundays from 5-9pm. Due to the facility and holiday schedules, there are occasional Fridays or Mondays. Cast is required to keep the schedules clear for every night of production week, including the Saturday and Sunday before. Production week schedule TBD at a later date. Please bring your calendar to the audition in order to list your current conflicts. If cast in "Don’t Drink the Water" and subsequently auditioning for another production performing after "Don’t Drink the Water" is over, "Don’t Drink the Water" is your priority and these rehearsals are your conflicts for that production. Maggie’s Little Theater requires all cast members to perform volunteer activities outside of their role. Examples include hall setup, distributing flyers and posters, set strike, production tasks, or similar.
