All JStage shows feature professional direction, as well as professional, lighting, sound, costume, and scenic design. Performances will take place in the 488 seat Isidore C. & Penny W. Myers Theatre at the Merage JCC in Irvine. Beauty and the Beast is a volunteer, non-Equity, community production. No participation fees are required.

Open Vocal Call
Sunday, July 7 from 12:00-6:00 PM

Prepare 16 bars of a song of your choice in the style of the show. Bring clearly marked sheet music in your key. You may sing from the show.

Open Dance Call
Tuesday, July 9, 6:00-8:00 PM

Arrive warm and ready to dance. You may stretch in the waiting area prior to the audition. Please bring jazz slippers. Female-identifying dancers should also bring character heels.

Please note: If you would like to be considered for a principal role, you must also attend the vocal call.

Not all cast members will be called to every rehearsal. Detailed call sheets will be provided in advance. Actors under the age of 18 will be released early as often as possible.

Female-identifying, playing age 20-30. Excellent actor and singer (range E3-F5), and a capable musical theatre dancer. A vibrant and intelligent girl who is optimistic, fun-loving, caring, and eager to experience life. This role requires on-stage intimacy (hugging and stage kissing) and light fight choreography.

Male-identifying, playing age 25-35. Excellent actor and singer (range A2-F4) and a capable mover. A spoiled Prince transformed into a terrifying beast for his lack of compassion, he is hot-tempered and commanding, but has a warm and loving heart buried far beneath his gruff exterior. This role requires on-stage intimacy (hugging and stage kissing), fight choreography, and the use of facial prosthetics.

Male-identifying, playing age 30-40. Excellent actor and singer (range A2-E4) and a capable mover. Gaston is the egotistical, misogynistic villain determined to marry Belle. He is manipulative, but can be charming and earnest when it suits his needs. This role requires fight choreography.

Male-identifying, playing age 20-35. Excellent comedic actor, character singer (range B2-F#4) and a capable mover. Physical comedy and tumbling is a plus. Lefou is Gaston’s bumbling sidekick. Though not particularly intelligent, he is loyal, energetic, and optimistic. This role requires fight choreography.

Male-identifying, playing age 50-65. Excellent actor, and a capable singer (range Bb2-Db4). Belle’s loving and eccentric father is a child at heart, and a creative inventor. This role requires fight choreography.

Mrs. Potts
Female-identifying, playing age 40-65. Excellent actor and singer (range F#3-G5) and a capable mover. A warm-hearted, maternal, enchanted teapot. She is loyal, caring, and playful.

Male-identifying, playing age 25-45. Excellent actor and singer (F#2-F#4) and a good dancer. Ballroom dance experience is a huge plus. A suave and debonair enchanted candelabra with a French accent and fantastic showmanship, Lumiere is a loyal and steadfast servant. This role requires choreographed flirting and close partner dancing.

Male-identifying, playing age 30-50. Excellent actor, capable singer (range A2-E4) and a strong mover. Cogsworth is a tightly-wound enchanted mantle clock, and the head of the Beast's household. He is uptight, strict, and punctual, but also hard-working, faithful, and thorough.

Female-identifying, playing age 25-45. Excellent actor and dancer, and a capable singer (range C4-F5). Ballroom dance experience is a huge plus. A saucy, enchanted feather-duster with a French accent, and the object of Lumiere's affections, she is playful and seductive. This role requires choreographed flirting and close partner dancing.

Madame De La Grande Bouche
Female-identifying, playing age 35-60. Excellent actor and singer (range C#4-D5) and a capable mover. A former opera diva-turned-enchanted wardrobe with a larger than life personality. She is caring and refined.

Male-identifying, playing age 7-10. Engaging actor and singer (range A3-F5). An enchanted teacup, and the son of Mrs. Potts. He is innocent, playful, bright-eyed, and hopeful.

Les Filles De La Ville
Female-identifying, playing age 18-35. Strong actors, singers, and dancers. Physical comedy is a plus. A group of Gaston’s fanatical followers who energetically pursue him in the hopes of winning his affection.

Featured Dancers
Excellent musical theatre dancers who sing to portray villagers, wolves, and featured enchanted objects, including the Salt and Pepper Shakers, the Cheese Grater, the Napkins, and the Carpet. Leaps, turns, tricks, and tumbling skills are a huge plus.

Ensemble (ages 18+)
Excellent actors and singers who move well to portray townspeople and various enchanted objects. Featured roles to be cast from the ensemble include the Narrator, Young Prince, Old Beggar Woman, Monsieur D’arque, Shepherd, Marie, Tavern Master, Laundry Lady, Baker, Milkmaid, Flower Seller, Sausage Curl Lady, Candle Maker, Hat Seller, and Bookseller.

Youth Ensemble (Ages 9-17)
Strong actors and singers who move well to portray townspeople and enchanted objects.

Performers of all ethnicities, cultural, religious, and gender identities, as well as performers with disabilities, are strongly encouraged to audition for all roles. All roles are available!
