POSITION OVERVIEW:
As a member of the senior staff, the Director of Production is responsible for furthering the goals and strategic vision of The Rep through our production work. The Director of Production should provide leadership and accountability for production staffing, supervision, evaluation, planning and logistical coordination, budgeting and financial control. We offer a strong compensation package including but not limited to:

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Hiring and supervision of all production department heads and technical staff, including scenery, props, paint, costumes, sound, electrics and stage management.
  • Serve as liaison between the production and administrative departments.
  • Collaborate with directors and designers to ensure the artistic vision of each production can be achieved within the available resources of time and budget.
  • Monitor the progress of each department throughout the production process on each show and maintain communication between departments.
  • Prepare, monitor and report on production budgets for each show.
  • Coordinate the development of the master calendar and production-specific schedules and deadlines; monitor inter-production department scheduling as needed.
  • Advise on capital purchases and upgrades.
  • Serve as the liaison between The Rep and Webster University Conservatory of Theatre Arts.
    • Coordination of student casting and crew assignments.
    • Coordination of shared theatre, shop and warehouse space.
  • Principal liaison between The Rep and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis.
    • Coordination of rehearsal space needs.
    • Coordination of shared equipment and resources.
  • Participate in strategic planning for the production department and the organization as a whole.
  • Work with development and education departments on various events.
  • Work with artistic director and managing director on season planning and budgeting.
  • Coordination and oversight of The Rep’s vehicles.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five years’ experience in production management, technical theatre or related work.
  • A self-motivated individual, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of the artistic process.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Capacity to solve problems and engage in creative thinking about challenges.
  • Experience with budgeting and scheduling.
  • Knowledge and experience working with theatrical unions (AEA, USA, IATSE). Working knowledge of LORT-AEA and LORT-USA contracts is desirable.
  • Ability to manage and supervise a variety of personalities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
