The Broadway League is the national trade association for the Broadway industry. Our 600‐plus members include theatre owners and operators, producers, presenters, and general managers in North American cities, as well as suppliers of goods and services to the commercial theatre industry. Each year, League members bring Broadway to more than 30 million people in New York and more than 200 cities across the U.S. and Canada. The Director of Communications & Public Relations will report to the President of the Broadway League as a member of the Executive Team, working in the League’s offices in Midtown Manhattan. This is a full-time position. RESPONSIBILITIES • Provide strategy and written support for spokesperson activities of the President and others • Work with consumer, trade, local, national, and international press to promote Broadway overall, and to educate the press on Broadway’s impact on the city, state, and country • Publicize the industry of Broadway by modernizing perception and increasing awareness/excitement/news of Broadway via ongoing broadcast, print and online press outlets to grow audience and generate ticket sales • Strategize, research and secure broadcast, print, and online press coverage for events and League initiatives including: Kids’ Night on Broadway, Jimmy Awards, Broadway Bridges, Stars in the Alley, Education and Audience Development programs, research reports, Year-End Statistics, etc. • Provide editorial direction and create materials to support the public relations efforts, including: press releases, media advisories, press kits, calendar listings, photo library, videos, etc. • Liaise with press agents to develop industry stories • Collaborate with Slate PR to promote Tony Awards • Response/fulfillment to press inquiries • Oversee maintenance of Opening Night Book • Support communication aspects of activities in other departments • Works with the various member committees and task forces on press outreach in support of initiatives including multicultural audience development, Viva Broadway, Legislation, etc. • Provide and distribute League messaging in response to breaking news including emergencies and security issues. • Develop and manage relationships with PR reps to secure talent for League initiatives and events • Partner with agencies including The Times Square Alliance and NYC & Co. to support mutual publicity for Broadway and the district. • Staff liaison to Press Agents Committee A successful applicant will have:
• At least 5 years of experience in Communications and Public Relations at a manager level or above, preferably in an arts or entertainment organization. • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail • Strong writing, speaking and interpersonal skills • Ability to multi-task and collaborate in a fast-paced environment • Passion for theatre and performing arts a big plus Benefits: • Employer fully paid health, dental and vision insurance for employee and dependents • Life, Long term disability and Long-term care insurance • 401k with match • Paid vacation • Opportunities to attend Broadway shows, and Tony Awards Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
