Job Overview: New York City Center seeks teaching artists with tap expertise to facilitate Tap Dance Kidz, a community engagement program connected to City Center’s upcoming production of The Tap Dance Kid. Ideal candidates will have previous teaching experience, an understanding of tap history, and an appreciation for working with new dancers.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Facilitate a series of three in-person workshops specially targeted for young people ages 12 to 17

o Set workshop curriculum includes tap history, tap basics and an original choreography exercise

o Workshops are 75-minutes each and free to participants

o Program participants will be expected to be vaccinated and masked for workshops

· Personalize curriculum to include one’s own journey with tap dance and modify programming for community partners, as needed

· Attend paid teaching artist program training

· Serve as a representative of City Center for community partners across New York City This Role Requires: · Expertise in tap

· Previous teaching experience, preferably working with new dancers

· Understanding of the origins of tap, including the style’s roots in Black culture

· Experience developing curriculum

· Comfort with improvisation and teaching tap with modifications (focus on body percussions, without tap shoes or preferred flooring, etc.)

· A flexible weekday, evening and weekend schedule during January 2022

· Travel to NYC’s 5 boroughs

· Ability to take ownership of assigned work and accountability for positive outcomes

· A passion for accessibility in the arts

· A commitment to working in and with communities across New York City

· Multi-lingual, a plus



This is a part-time, contracted position. The program structure aims for each teaching artist to work with a minimum of two community partners, facilitating three 75-minute workshops at each location. However, work is determined by partner registration and availability. The facilitation rate will be $100 per workshop, with additional fees for planning, training, and travel.
