Position: Costume Shop Supervisor @ Bay Street Theater - Summer 2025

Compensation: $1,200/week

Reports to: Director of Production

Supervises: Asst. Costume Shop Supervisor, Stitcher/Dresser

Location: The position is on-site, in Sag Harbor, NY. Housing is provided.

Schedule: The work schedule is determined by the Director of Production. This position requires regular evening and weekend work in conjunction with BSTs performance calendar. This is a seasonal position.

DUTIES + RESPONSIBILTIES

The BST mainstage season features the mounting of 4 productions and other special events.

The CS is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the costume shop, which includes the areas of costumes, wigs, and makeup for the run and maintenance of all performances. Management of the costume shop includes, but is not limited to, personnel, draping and construction, equipment, supplies, inventory, workroom/costume storage areas, and costume rentals. This position is responsible for maintaining expense budgets, communicating closely with designers, and hiring and supervising costume shop personnel. The CS will act as the team leader that supports all costume related functions to ensure smooth productions that come in on-time and on-budget. This post requires regular evening and weekend work in conjunction with BSTs performance calendar.

This is a seasonal position and does not carry with it any eligibility for additional BST employee benefits other than those listed within this agreement.

The CS general responsibilities will include:

PRE and POST SEASON

- Work with Associate General Manager and Director of Production to interview and hire staffing of the costume shop as needed

- Setup costume shop and wardrobe areas for beginning of season, communicating with Director of Production regarding any general shop and supplies needs

- Restore costume shop at the end of the season, including updating the stock item inventory and re-stocking general supplies and materials

MAINSTAGE SEASON

- Supervise all costume shop personnel

- Consult closely with Designers on the draping and construction of costumes to ensure design completion and labor efficiency

- Determine and meet costume/wardrobe deadlines in conjunction with Director of Production and production schedule

- Attend all fittings to ensure consistency and construction standards

- Manage the budget and accounting of costume/wardrobe related expenditures including collection and coding of all receipts and invoices

- Work directly with Costume Designers to balance budget necessities, feasibility, and design integrity

- Report regularly to Director of Production regarding budget tracking progress and concerns

- Oversee all returns in a timely fashion

- Attend all fittings and dress rehearsals for notes

- Communicate regularly with Production Stage Manager regarding fittings, rehearsal needs, and performer requests

- Oversee the wardrobe crew and costume maintenance of all Mainstage and supplemental productions for costumes, wigs, and makeup

- Attend all necessary production meetings as determined by the Director of Production.
