DESCRIPTION

The Greenhouse Ensemble is casting our upcoming Ten Minute Play Soiree, taking place this summer outdoors at the Westside Community Garden on July 30 & 31 and August 6 & 7. It is an evening of 7 plays, each with a different director in a collaborative environment.

Three Catholics Eat Lasagna with the Atheist

Lucia: Female. Reads late 20’s to early 40’s.
Italian from Italy. Has an Italian accent or could have lost accent but still Maintains, in her speech, the essence of the New Yorker from Italy. A strong woman devoted to her family and religion and tradition. But neither ignorant nor hard headed. She believes what she believes and it is important to her. But she is in love.
George: Male, Reads late 20’s to early 40’s
An American living in New York. A lapsed Presbyterian. He holds steadfast to his convictions as a non-believer. But He is in love.

27,000 Steps:

Juliet, 20s-30s, female-identifying, any ethnicity, interested in men. A woman on a mission to find purpose in her life. She believes fate, signs, and destiny will lead her there. Eccentric, kind, helpful, and puts herself out there.
Preferably seeking an actor with training in Viewpoints.

Childish Things:

JERRY - 50s-70s, a terminally ill man. Although his body is failing, he maintains a childlike ability for playfulness. Uses his imagination to cope with difficult situations, perhaps to a fault. Actor must enjoy doing voice work and replicating the voices of Teddy and Bunny which will be chosen by their respective actors.
RACHEL - late 20s-early 40s Jerry’s daughter. Guarded, carrying a great deal of anger and sadness.
TEDDY - A teddy bear. Their cartoonish voice and appearance contrasts their pragmatic way of thinking/speaking.
BUNNY - A child’s stuffed rabbit. They are tender, loving, wholesome. Their lovability compensates for their critical thinking deficiencies.

Garland Gynos and Gurneys

Chase: to play an 8 year-old with a grudge against Santa Clause

(Written as a male, but can be any gender. Please change pronouns/identifiers accordingly.)

Charlie: Chase’s father, a recent cuckold with a heart of gold

Aunt Betsy: Charlie’s sister, an adventerous spirit who loves to give her brother crap

Ideally looking for a parent/child actor team if possible, but not necessary.

Garden Piece:

Judge- upright, pompous but charming and oblivious. Indulgent.

Carl- an ambition monster, tunnel vision without awareness of manners. Funny.

Judy- sweet, kind, self assured until later in the play when she becomes filled with ambition.

Closing Doors:

Valerie: 30s- An elementary school assistant principal, professional, put together, able to separate emotion from duty




We are looking for non-union actors only.
Auditions will be held Wednesday, June 15th from 4-7pm, either on zoom or in person outdoors (weather pending)
