The Opportunity:

The Acting Company seeks a part-time bookkeeper/office manager to start in October, in person at the office in mid-town Manhattan.  This position will join a staff of 5 full-time employees and report to the General Manager.  The schedule is 20 hours per week, and can be flexible within the time frame of 10am - 6pm Monday - Friday but must be consistent week to week.

The Acting Company, est. 1972, is the only professional touring theater in the United States, and the only professional theater dedicated to the development of the American actor. The Acting Company has performed in the United States from coast to coast, in major cities and small towns. In addition, it has served at various points in its history as the touring arm of New York City Center, The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and The Guthrie. It has been in-residence with many regional theaters and at universities. It also has toured abroad to Russia, Poland, Germany, the former Yugoslavia, Australia, Canada, Bermuda, and London. For its dedication to touring the Company received the 2003 Tony Honor.


Experience and Qualifications:

  • experience with Quickbooks and knowledge of non-profit finance is required
  • excellent attention to detail and a commitment to clear communication and organization
  • proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel, and researching online
  • working IT knowledge and experience with SquareSpace is a plus
  • appreciation for theater, great sense of humor, dedicated work ethic
  • proof of COVID-19 vaccination


  • daily bookkeeping (accounts payable and receivable, bank and credit card reconciliations, bill pay) in Quickbooks online
  • maintain organized and efficient filing systems, both paper and electronic
  • assist with annual audit
  • vendor research, maintenance, and communication
  • management of office supplies, building IDs for the staff, contracted cleaning crew, mail
  • assist with administrative tasks for all departments 
  • minor updates to the company website as requested
  • other projects when appropriate


Compensation and Application Process:
