The Shakespeare Theatre Company, a prominent multi venue LORT B+ theatre in Washington DC seeks an Assistant Master Electrician (AME). Due to our two venues and overlapping production schedule, the AME will often stand in for the Master Electrician, representing the department when needed at production meetings/tech rehearsals, etc. This position frequently supervises staff and overhire crews, runs focus calls, and maintains a safe workplace. The AME is further responsible for assisting the Master Electrician in planning departmental needs for all productions and rentals, tracking maintenance needs, maintaining departmental paperwork and calendar, scheduling staff, acting as an occasional swing for staff electricians, and other duties as required. This is a full-time position with excellent benefits and an annual salary of $50,000.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelors in technical theatre, or equivalent professional experience, and at least 3-5 years as an electrician in a theatrical environment. Must be comfortable supervising a crew/running a call, have basic electronics knowledge, be able to use standard hand and power tools safely, be able to read and understand technical drawings, have knowledge of Vectorworks and Lightwright, be familiar with ETC Eos, and Express consoles. The successful candidate must be able to safely and competently use a Genie lift, ladders, manual counterweight rigging systems, and chain hoists. Excellent multitasking and computer skills are and absolute must. This position regularly lifts 50-75 lbs unaided and works at heights. Capability to work in dark/dim settings required. Evenings and weekends are occasionally required per production needs. Please note that STC has a mandatory vaccination policy, along with other safety requirements due to COVID-19.
