Stuart Gellman: A professional clarinet player and teacher, Noah's father; mourning the loss of his wife
Grandpa Gellman: Stuart’s father/Noah’s grandfather
Grandma Gellman: Stuart's mother/Noah’s grandmother
Rose Stopnick Gellman: THIS ROLE IS CAST. Noah's concerned new stepmother, a friend of the family who marries Stuart after his first wife's death
Mr. Stopnick: Rose's father, a Jewish man with a liberal ideology
The Domestic Appliances:
- The Radio: is portrayed by three women that look and sing like a Motown girl group.
- The Washing Machine: Is brand-new and a good force that pushes Caroline to move forward in life.
- The Dryer: Torments Caroline throughout the play.
The Moon: The Moon is a calming and healing presence throughout the play.
The Bus: Is the primary source of transportation for the African American characters in the play.

SEEKING:
Dr. Cummings: Female, 50s-60s. An astrophysicist, professor. She is very intelligent, somewhat sardonic, a believer in facts. Widowed two years ago and still in mourning. She has a daughter, Olive. She receives a diagnosis of early onset dementia but shows only slight signs of it during the play.
Olive: Female, Cummings’ daughter, 20s-30s. Smart, self-possessed, caring. A positive, smart, attractive person, she believes in more than she can see or, unlike her mother, is at least open to the possibility. She is a doctoral candidate in English literature. They clash over this and other things. Still, she loves her mother very much. She and Jason, are a possible fit.
Jason: Male, 30s. A journalist, he is “floating through life” somewhat. He works for a magazine he doesn’t respect, has recently broken up with a girlfriend, and isn’t sure what he believes about the greater questions. He does want there to be more than this. He wants there to be meaning and order. Ethical, intelligent, searching.
Player: Any gender, any age, any race, any type. They make up the rest of the “world.” This includes, Haley, Chancellor, Farrell, Doctor and Messenger. It may also include the O.S. voice of Tom but as a recording. The O.S. voice of Tom can be someone else but should not be done by Player when Messenger is physically present.

Shaun: 30-40; Proficient acoustic guitar player, expressive lead vocals, demure, but a man with a vision.
Abigail: 30-40; Lead Singer of band, vibrant, exciting, expressive vocals. Ability to play some stand- up drum and possibly accordion. Big vocal range and large personality.
NOTE: Throughout the course of the play all musicians play various roles and are able to sing. They are proficient with their intstruments first and foremost. Two men and two women.
