The Seat of Our Pants, Ethan Lipton's new musical version of Thornton Wilder's The Skin of Our Teeth, is currently making its world premiere Off-Broadway at The Public Theater, where it officially opens November 13 in the Newman Theater. Tony winner Ruthie Ann Miles leads the cast as as Mrs. Antrobus, with Ally Bonino as Fortune Teller, Bill Buell as Turkey, Damon Daunno as Henry Antrobus, Micaela Diamond as Sabina, Amina Faye as Glady Antrobus, Andy Grotelueschen as Announcer, Shuler Hensley as Mr. Antrobus, Michael Lepore as Telegram Boy, Geena Quintos as Mammoth, and Ruth E. Sternberg as Mr. Fitzpatrick. The ensemble includes Ben Beckley, Allison Ann Kelly, Nat Lopez, and David Ryan Smith, with the company rounded out by understudies Kelly Belarmino, Cole Burden, León Ramos Tak, and Angela Travino.
The work tracks the Antrobus family over their 5,000 years, stuck in the same existential dread throughout, plus a number of absurd catastrophes.
The world premiere musical is being directed by Leigh Silverman and features choreography by Sunny Min-Sook Hitt; scenic design by Lee Jellinek; costume design by Kaye Voyce; lighting design by Lap Chi Chu; sound design by Drew Levy; prop management by Claire M. Kavanah; fight direction by Jordan Laroya; orchestrations, arrangements, and co-music supervision by Daniel Kluger; music coordination by Tomoko Akaboshi; music direction and co-music supervision by Nathan Koci; and dramaturgy by Sarah Lunnie. Shelley Miles is the production stage manager, and Caroline Englander and Alex Luong are the stage managers.
