News Chicago's Court Theatre Announces Casting for The Secret Garden Musical The Court Theatre Chicago has announced the cast for its production of Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon's The Secret Garden to be directed by award-winning artistic director Charles Newell.

Based on the classic novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden features book and lyrics by Marsha Norman and music by Lucy Simon. Performances will run May 21 – June 21, with an official opening night scheduled for May 30.

The cast includes James Earl Jones II ("Poker House"), Elizabeth Ledo (The Real Thing), Rob Lindley ("Angels in America"), Aubrey McGrath, Christine Mild, Alka Nayyar, Jeff Parker, Jennie Sophia, Marya Grandy, Maya Hlava and Tori Whaples.

The story follows ten-year old Mary Lennox who is sent back to England to live at her estranged uncle's estate following her parents' death in a cholera outbreak. Orphaned and alone, Mary is haunted by ghosts present and past. Hope is found blooming in the discovery of a magical, locked-away garden.

The creative team includes John Culbert (scenic design), Mara Blumenfeld (costume design), Marcus Doshi (lighting design), Joshua Horvath (sound design), Amanda Weener-Frederick (production stage manager) and Claire E. Zawa (assistant stage manager).
