Gugu Mbatha-Raw to Star in Nell Gwynn at Shakespeare’s Globe

Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who recently starred in the films "Belle" (winning the 2014 BIFA Award) and "Beyond the Lights" and has also starred in "Larry Crowne" opposite Tom Hanks, is to star in the title role of Jessica Swale's Nell Gwynn, beginning performances Sept. 19 prior to an official opening Sept. 24 for a run through Oct. 11 at Shakespeare's Globe, as the last show in the theatre's summer season.

Anne-Marie Duff, Rosalie Craig and Charles Edwards, all of whom have appeared regularly at the National in the past, will each return in new productions in the fall. Dates have also been announced for the world premieres of plays by Wallace Shawn and Caryl Churchill, and the transfer of Damon Albarn and Moira Buffini's new musical wonder.land that is currently running at Manchester's Palace Theatre.

02 Jul 2015 -- The world-premiere run of Damon Albarn's new musical wonder.land opens at Manchester's Palace Theatre July 2 (following previews that began June 29), where it runs as part of the Manchester International Festival through July 12.

01 Jul 2015 -- Ann Hampton Callaway and sister Liz Callaway have regularly played in London over the years, including most recently at Crazy Coqs, the cabaret room at Brasserie Zedel off Piccadilly Circus, in separate engagements last year. 17 years ago, however, they brought their New York cabaret show Sibling Revelry to the Donmar Warehouse as part of that theatre's inaugural Divas at the Donmar season that would become a regular fixture at the venue, with subsequent years bringing the likes of Audra McDonald, Betty Buckley and Patti LuPone to its stage.
