Rachel Bay Jones and Jennifer Hope Wills Join Lineup for Reading of Ghostlight Musical
By Andrew Gans
Additional casting has been announced for the upcoming industry reading of the musical Ghostlight, which will be presented Dec. 2 at the New 42nd Street Studios.
Ghostlight, which has book, music and lyrics by Matthew Martin and Tim Realbuto, tells the "true story of Ziegfeld Follies girl and silent film star Olive Thomas, her rise to fame in the Follies alongside Fanny Brice, her affair with a married Ziegfeld, her Hollywood marriage to movie star Jack Pickford, and ultimately her tragic downfall which led to her mysterious death at age 25 in Paris," according to press notes.
The cast will be led by the previously reported Tony nominee Robert Cuccioli as Florenz Ziegfeld, Jr., Trevor McQueen as Jack Pickford and Kimberly Faye Greenberg as Fanny Brice.
Newly announced for the reading are Pippin star Rachel Bay Jones and Jennifer Hope Wills (Wonderful Town; The Phantom of the Opera). Jones will play Molly Cook, a comedienne in the Follies and Olive’s best friend who ultimately unlocks a major secret; Wills will play Doris/Cora/Lois Long and others. Casting for the roles of Billie Burke and Olive Thomas will be announced shortly.
Ghostlight had a sold-out and extended run at Off-Broadway’s Signature Theatre in 2011 as part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival. It was directed by creators Martin and Realbuto.
Although the reading is closed to the public, the creators have initiated a raffle to anyone who donates to their IndieGoGo campaign. The winner of the raffle will receive two seats to the special event; click here to donate to Ghostlight and enter the raffle.
