By Michael Gioia
A cast album for the 35th anniversary Broadway revival of Annie, starring Lilla Crawford, Anthony Warlow and Tony Award winner Katie Finneran, is released digitally May 28. Physical copies will hit shelves July 2 on the Shout! Broadway label.
The cast began recording the infectious Martin Charnin-Charles Strouse score March 3. Grammy Award-winning veteran cast album producer Thomas Z. Shepard (Sweeney Todd, Company, Sunday in the Park with George) produces the recording, which features bonus tracks with Emmy Award-winning "Glee" star Jane Lynch, who assumed the role of Miss Hannigan May 14.
Physical copies of the album are currently available at the Palace Theatre and can be pre-ordered via the official webpage for the production. The album was recorded March 3-4 and 11 at Kaufman Astoria Studios. Bonus tracks were recorded April 8 at Entourage Studios, Los Angeles.
Broadway producers Douglas Denoff and Dennis Grimaldi produce the Annie cast album for Shout! Broadway. Denoff and Grimaldi forged the partnership with the Shout! Factory label for their Grammy-nominated cast album for Nice Work If You Can Get It.
The new production, staged by Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winner James Lapine, has new orchestrations by Michael Starobin and musical direction by Todd Ellison. Dance music arrangements are by Alex Lacamoire (In the Heights). Musical coordinator is Patrick Vaccariello.
