By Matthew Blank
The day after the Tony nominations were announced, the class of 2013 assembled in New York’s Millennium Broadway Hotel to meet the press. Playbill photographer Monica Simoes captured some intimate moments with the nominees in this candid portrait gallery. Check out Joseph Marzullo’s official Tony pictures here.
The Tony Awards will be broadcast in a live three-hour ceremony from Radio City Music Hall, on the CBS television network, June 9.
Two new musicals, Kinky Boots and Matilda the Musical, earned 13 and 12 nominations, respectively, the most of any productions of the season. Two musical revivals also fared well: Stephen Schwartz's Pippin nabbed 10 nominations, while Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella received nine nominations. Leading the plays are the revival of Golden Boy with eight nominations, and the late Nora Ephron's Lucky Guy and Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, with six nominations apiece.
The Tony Awards are presented by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League.
