Chaplin Star Rob McClure Will Join Tony Danza in Paper Mill's Broadway-Bound Musical Honeymoon in Vegas
By Andrew Gans
Rob McClure, who was critically acclaimed for his performance in the title role of the recent Broadway musical Chaplin, has joined the cast of Paper Mill Playhouse's Broadway-bound production of the new Jason Robert Brown musical Honeymoon in Vegas.
A spokesperson for the New Jersey venue told Playbill.com, "We are thrilled to have Rob McClure join the cast of Honeymoon in Vegas. Rob is an important part of the Paper Mill family having attended our summer musical theater conservatory, working on our staff, acting as a teacher, and winner of a rising star award and previously featured on our main stage."
As previously reported by Playbill.com, Honeymoon in Vegas, featuring music and lyrics by Brown (Parade, The Last Five Years, Songs for a New World) and a book by Andrew Bergman, who wrote and directed the film, will run Sept. 26-Oct. 27 at Paper Mill.
Tony Danza (The Producers, "Who's the Boss") will star as gambler Tommy Korman. Paper Mill has not announced creative duties, but an earlier Equity casting notice states that Gary Griffin (The Color Purple) will direct the new musical based on the 1992 film comedy film. The musical will have choreography by Denis Jones and musical direction by Tom Murray.
Here's how Paper Mill bills it: "This insanely funny musical tells the tale of Jack Singer (Rob McClure), a guy with an extraordinary fear of marriage, who finally overcomes his phobia and goes to Las Vegas to wed his long-time girlfriend Betsy. Enter Tommy Korman (Tony Danza), a widowed and unscrupulous gambler looking for another shot at love. Tommy spots Betsy, who bears an uncanny resemblance to his late wife, and the game is afoot."
Subscriptions are now available at Papermill.org. Single tickets will go on sale in June.
