Pasadena Pops Honor Marvin Hamlisch With Jason Alexander, Jason Robert Brown and More, Sept. 22
By Adam Hetrick
The Pasadena Symphony and Pops celebrate the work of late award-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch in a free Sept. 22 concert hosted by Tony Award-winning actor-director Jason Alexander at Pasadena City Hall. The 7 PM concert includes performances by Valerie Perri (Evita), Lisa Vroman (Phantom) and Tony Award-winning composer-lyricist Jason Robert Brown (Parade, The Last Five Years). Tony Award nominee Larry Blank (The Drowsy Chaperone, A Christmas Story) will conduct. Hamlisch, whose numerous compositions included A Chorus Line, They're Playing Our Song, Sweet Smell of Success, "The Way We Were," and more, died Aug. 6 at the age of 68. The concert promises selections from A Chorus Line and They're Playing Our Song, as well as "Nobody Does It Better," "The Way We Were," in addition to music by the people that inspired Hamlisch: the Gershwins, Jule Styne, and others. A pre-concert event, with refreshments and kid's entertainment will precede the concert at 5:30 PM. Visit pasadenasymphony-pops.org. |
