She's of a Certain Age, With Drena De Niro, Lois Markle, Rosemary Prinz, Robert Newman, Opens Off-Broadway May 20
By Michael Gioia
Cause Célèbre, in association with Mary J. Davis, presents the world premiere of She's of a Certain Age, written by award-winning playwright Susan Charlotte, opening May 20 at the Beckett Theatre at Theatre Row.
Directed by Antony Marsellis — who also collaborated with playwright Charlotte on Off-Broadway's The Shoemaker — and Christopher Hart, the limited engagement continues through June 10. Previews began April 26.
She's of a Certain Age, formerly titled Women of a Certain Age, features Drena De Niro ("Wag the Dog"), Lois Markle (Hedda Gabler, True West), Robert Newman ("Guiding Light") and Rosemary Prinz (Steel Magnolias, Tribute).
Here's how producers bill the show: "How old is a woman of a certain age? Word has it that the age keeps changing and getting older! Three women and one man, ranging in age from forty to eighty, face the challenges presented by different stages in life with humor and humanity."
Other members of the creative team include scenic designer James Wolk (Boys' Life at Lincoln Center) and lighting designer Dennis Parichy (Tony nominee for Redwood Curtain, Fifth of July and Talley's Folly).
The Beckett Theatre at Theatre Row is located at 410 West 42nd Street. For more information and tickets, call (212) 239-6200 or visit Telecharge.com.
