24 Aug 2014
Andrew Rannells replaced Neil Patrick Harris in the title role of the Tony Award-winning revival of Hedwig and the Angry Inch Aug. 20. With Rannells only contracted for an eight-week run, Playbill.com asked readers which actor they would like to see next step into Hedwig's high heels.
Rannells made his Broadway debut in the ensemble of Hairspray in 2007. He received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in The Book of Mormon. He was also seen in Jersey Boys and stars on the hit television series "Girls."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
