Joanna Christie Departs Broadway's Once; Folk Singer in the Wings

U.K. actress Joanna Christie, who made her Broadway debut as "Girl" last summer in the Tony Award-winning musical Once, exits the production June 15 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

Christie co-starred with Daniel Radcliffe in the West End revival of Equus and also appeared in "Mr. Selfridge" as well as The Ramshackle Heart and One Night In November.

Actress Jessie Fisher, who has stood-by for the role of "Girl," will assume the role June 17. Fisher, who is half of the folk duo Erik and Jessie, has worked with Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Lookingglass Theatre Company and others.

The current Broadway cast also features Paul Alexander Nolan as "Guy," Adam Wesley Brown, Laurel Griggs, David Patrick Kelly, Katrina Lenk, Brandon McGibbon, Anne L. Nathan, Madeleine Pace, Andy Taylor, Ryan Vona, Erikka Walsh, Paul Whitty and J. Michael Zygo.

Once is directed by John Tiffany (Black Watch), with movement by Steven Hoggett (Black Watch, American Idiot) and music supervision and orchestrations by Martin Lowe (Mamma Mia!). It won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical. Once premiered on Broadway in March 2012 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

The production has set and costume design by Tony Award winner Bob Crowley (The Coast of Utopia, Mary Poppins). Lighting design is by Tony winner Natasha Katz (Aida, The Coast of Utopia), and sound design is by Clive Goodwin. Once.
