By Ernio Hernandez

28 Feb 2002

If you thought the "terrible twos" were bad, just wait until Stomp turns eight. The long-running Off-Broadway literal smash will celebrate its 3358th performance at New York City's Orpheum Theatre Feb. 28.

If you thought the "terrible twos" were bad, just wait until Stomp turns eight. The long-running Off-Broadway literal smash will celebrate its 3358th performance at New York City's Orpheum Theatre Feb. 28.

Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas created Stomp, the show about banging everything from Zippo lighters to brooms to plungers, plastic bags and hubcaps opened in NYC in 1994.

The show has spawned five internationally touring companies, an Academy Award nominated short, an Emmy Award-winning HBO special, "Stomp Out Loud" and the upcoming feature film called "Vacuums" as well as an IMAX film called "Pulse."

Accolades the show has garnered include London's Olivier Award, New York's Obie and Drama Desk Awards.

Last year, at its seven year mark Off-Broadway, Stomp had gone through:

2,310 pairs of drumsticks
1, 134 wooden poles
406 British-made small garbage cans
322 British-made large garbage cans
2,450 American-made garbage cans
9,100 boxes of Swan Vesta matches
546 gallons of black paint
4,680 pairs of earplugs

Tickets to Stomp are available by calling (212) 477-2477. The Orpheum Theatre is located at 126 Second Avenue.
