The musical received a developmental presentation as part of Hartford Stage's Brand:NEW festival in 2010. It is being developed by producer Orin Wolf (Once, Orphans, Hands on a Hardbody) and Hartford Stage associate artistic director Maxwell Williams.
According to the creators, "The Band's Visit tells the story of the Alexandria Ceremonial Police Band's arrival in Israel to play at the opening of a cultural center. But when their hosts don't show, an error in communication sends them in the wrong direction and they find themselves in a small settlement in the heart of the Negev Desert. With no transportation out until morning, and no hotel in sight, the beleaguered band is left to spend the night. The Band's Visit is a tale about our ability to heal each other in the most surprising ways and in the most unlikely places."
In a recent interview with the Washington Post, Prince (Cabaret, Phantom of the Opera, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Sweeney Todd) said that his musical The Prince of Broadway, which takes audiences through his numerous award-winning stage projects, is not indefinitely postponed, as previously reported.
The Prince of Broadway is directed by Prince, co-directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman, and features a book by Tony Award nominee David Thompson (The Scottsboro Boys).
Here's how the show is billed: "Celebrating one of the most influential and successful careers in the American theatre of the past 60 years, Prince of Broadway will look at the circumstances and fortune, both good and bad, that led to Hal Prince creating some of the most enduring and beloved theatre of all time, including The Pajama Game, West Side Story, Fiorello!, Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Evita and The Phantom of the Opera, the longest-running show in Broadway history."
