Wonderettes to Celebrate One-Year Anniversary in September; New Productions Planned

By Andrew Gans
17 Aug 2009

The Off-Broadway musical The Marvelous Wonderettes will celebrate its first anniversary at the Westside Theatre Upstairs Sept. 14.

Written and directed by Roger Bean, the new musical currently features Kirsten Bracken, Misty Cotton, Christina DeCicco and Lindsay Mendez.

The Wonderettes will also bring their unique harmonies to several cities across the country within the next few months. New productions have been announced for Chicago's Northlight Theatre and Miami's Actors' Playhouse in September 2009, Long Beach's Musical Theatre West in April 2010, Cincinnati's Ensemble Theatre in May 2010 and Albany's Capital Repertory Theatre in June 2010.

Wonderettes, according to press notes, "features the iconic sounds of the '50s and '60s in a journey back to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where the Wonderettes — Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy and Suzy — are four young girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts." Songs included in the new show are "Lollipop," "Dream Lover," "Stupid Cupid," "Lipstick on Your Collar," "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me," "It's My Party" and "It's in His Kiss."

The creative team includes writer-director Roger Bean, set designer Mike Carnahan, costume and wig designer Bobby Pearce, lighting designer Jeremy Pivnick, sound designer Cricket S. Myers, musical director Michael Borth and choreographer Janet Miller.

David Elzer, Peter Schneider and Marvelous NYC, LLC are presenting the Off-Broadway run.

The Westside Theatre is located in Manhattan at 407 West 43rd Street. Tickets are available by visiting www.telecharge.com or calling (212) 239-6200.
