Casting Announced for I Hate Love at Midtown Theatre Festival

By Adam Hetrick
02 Jul 2009

Sarah Barry and Andrew Stephen Johnson will appear in I Hate Love as part of the Midtown International Theatre Festival.

Running July 13-28, the work is written and adapted by Kyle Baxter and Jon Crefeld, as a modern spin on Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. Mark Duncan will direct.

In addition to Barry and Johnson, I Hate Love will feature Elizabeth Allerton, Danielle Beckmann, Dan Belmont, Patricia Comstock, Austin Elmore, John Felidi, Anthony Gargano, D.R. Mann Hanson, Roi King, Blaine Pennington, Duncan Pflaster and Elizabeth Pickett.

"In I Hate Love," press notes state, "Kira (Barry) and Lieutenant Cruz (Johnson) are getting married…or so they think. Love is in the air, hot shot pilots from Cruz's Navy squadron are coming, but not everyone is happy about the impending nuptials. And what exactly is going on between Bennett the best man and Kira's cousin Tom? Scornful exes, anonymous texting, and even an officer or two come out in this modern day, gender-bending interpolation of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing."

For tickets, priced $18, visit MidtownFestival.

The Dorothy Streslin Theatre is located within the Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex at 312 West 36th Street.
