Santiago-Hudson Joins ABC Crime Pilot "Castle"

By Adam Hetrick
09 May 2008

Tony Award winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson has signed on for the new ABC television pilot "Castle."

The Seven Guitars Tony winner joins Nathan Fillion ("Desperate Housewives") for the pilot that centers around a mystery novelist who assists the NYPD in solving cases, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Santiago-Hudson has been cast as an NYPD police chief who isn't keen on the novelist's meddling in official police affairs. The role of a female detective remains to be cast.

"Castle" is directed by Rob Bowman and produced by Andrew Marlowe, Armyan Bernstein, Jane Raab and Laurie Zaks. The pilot will shoot on location in New York City.

Ruben Santiago-Hudson earned a 1996 Tony Award for August Wilson's Seven Guitars. He has appeared in the Broadway productions of Jelly's Last Jam and Gem of the Ocean, as well as Lackawanna Blues, which he also wrote, at the Public Theater. His screen credits include "Law & Order," "American Gangster" and "Coming to America."
