Farr and Gillette to Star in Off-Broadway Comedy, Flamingo Court

By Andrew Gans
09 May 2008

A new comedy set in an apartment complex in South Florida will be seen at New World Stages this summer.

Luigi Creatore's Flamingo Court will begin previews at the Off-Broadway venue July 17 with an official opening scheduled for July 31. Former "M*A*S*H" favorite Jamie Farr and actress Anita Gillette will co-star.

Farr and Gillette will play several roles apiece in the new work, which will be directed by Steven Yuhasz. The cast will also feature Lucy Martin, Herbert Rubens and J. Cameron Barnett.

Flamingo Court comprises three one-acts comedies. The design team includes scenic designer Jim Youmans, costume designer Carol Sherry, lighting designer Herrick Goldman and sound designer David Arnold.

Producers are Theater 21 and Carolyn Rossi Copeland.

Jamie Farr's first film role was Santini in "The Blackboard Jungle." Appearances on "The Red Skelton Show" and "The Danny Kaye Show" followed, but it was his work as Corporal Klinger that brought the actor the most fame. His other screen credits include "The Greatest Story Ever Told," "Cannonball Run" and "Catch Me If You Can." Farr toured with The Will Rogers Follies and played Oscar Madison in a national tour of The Odd Couple; he made his Broadway debut in the hit revival of Guys and Dolls.

Anita Gillette was Tony-nominated for her performance in Neil Simon's Chapter Two. Her numerous Broadway appearances also include Gypsy, Carnival!, All American, Mr. President, Kelly, Guys and Dolls, Don't Drink the Water, Cabaret, Jimmy, They're Playing Our Song and Brighton Beach Memoirs.

New World Stages is located in Manhattan at 340 West 50th Street. Tickets, priced $36.50-$71.50, will go on sale May 12 by calling (212) 239-6200 or by visiting www.telecharge.com.
