Camargo Will Replace Conley as Executive Director of Soho Rep

By Adam Hetrick
08 May 2008

Roundabout Theater Company management associate Tania Camargo has been named the new executive director of Off-Broadway's Soho Rep.

Former Soho Rep executive director Alexandra Conley announced in January that she would vacate her position; she has served as executive director of Soho Rep since 1999.

Camargo joins Soho Rep artistic director Sarah Benson in helming the group that made the transition to an Off-Broadway company this past year.

Camargo spent three years as a management associate at the Roundabout under the direction of Harold Wolpert. Her experience as a general manager for Off-Broadway's Crimes of the Heart and as company manager for the Berkshire Theatre Festival in 2004 played key roles in her candidacy for the position.

John Dembrow, chairman of the board at Soho Rep, said in a statement, "Although we are sorry to lose Ms. Conley, the board feels that Ms. Camargo is the right person to work hand in hand with Ms. Benson and the board to guide the organization through our envisioned growth. She has the talent, energy and dedication necessary to nurture Soho Rep's reputation as one of New York's finest theatre institutions."

Soho Rep, which operated as an Off-Off-Broadway company for 32 seasons, launched its first season as an official Off-Broadway company this past fall with John Jesurun's Philoktetes, followed by the acclaimed run of No Dice created by the Nature Theatre of Oklahoma.

Soho Rep's scheduled production of Blasted – penned by Sarah Kane – has moved its planned production dates from April to October 2008.

For information about the Soho Rep season, call (212) 941-8632 or visit www.sohorep.org. Soho Rep is located at 46 Walker Street in Manhattan.
