04 Apr 2008

Production: Top Girls, by Caryl Churchill, directed by James Macdonald, starring Mary Catherine Garrison, Mary Beth Hurt, Jennifer Ikeda, Elizabeth Marvel, Martha Plimpton, Ana Reeder and Marisa Tomei.

Previews: April 15, 2008
Opening: May 7, 2008
Closing: June 22, 2008

Venue: Biltmore Theatre, 261 West 47th Street, New York, NY 10036

Manhattan Theatre Club presents Caryl Churchill's acclaimed work. Challenging both in its subject matter and theatrical technique, Top Girls asks what price women pay for success in a cut-throat, capitalist society. Press notes describe the story: "Marlene celebrates her promotion to managing director of the Top Girls Employment Agency by throwing a 'Mad Hatter' type dinner party for a fanciful array of mythical and historical women, including a Victorian-era Scottish traveler, a Japanese courtesan turned Buddhist nun, Pope Joan and Chaucer's Patient Griselda. Crossing cultures, generations and politics, the sparkling dinner conversation reveals the sacrifices made as well as the joys experienced by these extraordinary women."
