Xanadu CD Now Available for Online Pre-Sale; Track List Announced

The cast recording of the new Broadway musical Xanadu — based on the infamous film of the same name — is currently available for presale online by visiting the PS Classics website.
The PS Classics CD will arrive in stores Jan. 8, 2008, but online purchases will begin shipping Dec. 11.
PS Classics co-founder Tommy Krasker told Playbill.com, "We typically start selling at our website two weeks prior to street date, as a courtesy to our online customers, some of whom have been buying steadily from us since our very first album. But two weeks prior to street date is Christmas Day, and with mail always slow around the holidays, we couldn't guarantee folks would get product before it showed up in stores. So we decided to back up our web release another two weeks."
Beginning Dec. 18 one track from the 14-track recording, "All Over the World," will be available online as a digital download. Krasker said, "We expect Xanadu to do especially well at iTunes, and all the other digital download sites, so we decided to offer a little preview."

The cast of the acclaimed musical — including Kerry Butler, Cheyenne Jackson, Tony Roberts, Mary Testa, Jackie Hoffman, Curtis Holbrook, Anika Larsen, Kenita Miller and Andre Ward — recorded the single CD Oct. 29.
Xanadu boasts a book by Little Dog Laughed playwright Douglas Carter Beane — a 2007 Tony Award nominee — and utilizes songs from John Farrar and Jeff Lynne's film soundtrack. The musical, according to press notes, "tells the story of one of the nine muses of ancient Greece who comes to earth to inspire the greatest of artistic achievements – a roller disco. Along the way she falls in love, bumps into an old acquaintance and for the first time, feels the desire to create herself." Xanadu plays the Helen Hayes Theatre.
The recording boasts a 24-page full-color booklet with an essay and synopsis penned by the show's librettist, Beane.
