Dee Dee Bridgewater Returns to Billie Holiday in Lady Day

Tony and multiple Grammy Award winner Dee Dee Bridgewater portrays the late, legendary jazz artist Billie Holiday in the play-with-music Lady Day, which begins previews Sept. 19 at Off-Broadway's Little Shubert Theatre. Written and directed by Stephen Stahl, Lady Day is making its New York debut having previously been seen at the Theatre de Boulogne-Billancourt and Theatre du Gymnase Marie Bell in Paris as well as The Donmar Warehouse and The Piccadilly Theatre in London, where Bridgewater received an Olivier nomination for her performance. At a press preview for the show, Bridgewater sang a few selections from Lady Day, and spoke about her history with the piece and Billie Holiday's enduring popularity.
