Hugh Jackman: 2012 Special Tony Award Winner

Theatre proponent and Broadway and film star Hugh Jackman received a Special Tony Award at the 2012 Tony ceremony on June 10. Presented by his wife Deborra-Lee Furness, the Tony Award recognized his work with charitable organizations like Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and his contributions to the Broadway community. Following the shock that it was his publicity-shy wife who handed him the award, Jackman (already a Tony winner for The Boy From Oz) joined the press to speak of his love for the theatre (it started with a high school performance of Man of La Mancha), the top moments of his acting career and his next musical role — as Jean Valjean in the film version of the musical Les Misérables. For more on Jackman and an upcoming staged reading of the new musical Houdini, click here.
