Playbill Vault: Marin Mazzie Shares Her Passion For Sondheim

Currently starring Off-Broadway in the revival of Carrie, Marin Mazzie took the time to speak to Playbill about originating the role of Clara in the 1994 original Broadway production of Passion. Set in 19th century Italy, the Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine musical tells the story of Giorgio (Jere Shea), a soldier who becomes increasingly obsessed with his colonel's chronically ill cousin Fosca (Donna Murphy), much to the chagrin (communicated through a series of letters) of his married lover, Clara. Mazzie received a Tony nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical and the show captured four Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score.
