Michael Greif and the Evolution of Rent

Michael Greif, the director of the original Off-Broadway/Broadway production of Rent in 1996, talks about the steps he took to make his current Off-Broadway revival of the rock musical clear and relevant to a 21st-century audience. He talked history with his young cast, making sure they knew what was happening in New York in the late '80s and early '90s in the first decade of the age of AIDS when the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical is set. He also introduced his troupe to the family of late Rent composer-lyricist-librettist Jonathan Larson. To see interviews with the cast of Rent, click here.
