The Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia, PA, is now accepting submissions for the World Premiere of The Eclectic Society by Eric Conger. Eclectic is an exciting new play set in the 1960's about the tension that erupts when an African-American student is inducted into a predominantly white fraternity. With a cast full of college-aged characters, the show offers excellent and demanding roles for young actors.

Please read notice carefully, and submit ONLY if you are “right” for one or more roles.

Seeking:

Tom Rockwell:

Caucasian male, 21-22. Should be at least 6 ft tall. A Senior. Captain of the football team and President of the house. Charismatic, articulate and good-looking – the classic All-American boy. Tom is the main character, whose behavior is the subject of the play. He thinks highly of himself, and believes he is destined to be a leader, although ultimately he is not up to the challenges set before him over the course of the play.

Darrell Freeman:

African-American male, 17-18. Ideally should be short and wiry, with great presence. A Freshman. Darrell is the other central character in the play. He grew up a rough neighborhood and is totally out of place at this WASP-y New England college. Comes off as tough and cocky, but he has a compassionate and creative side when you peel away the layers. Charming and funny when he wants to be, but needs to also be convincingly dangerous when he loses his cool.

Tony Caroli:

Male, 19-20. Needs to look Italian-American, but can be any physical type. A Sophomore. Tony is the class clown. He is genuinely in love with the classics, the most artistic of the guys and an aspiring actor. He is intense and thoughtful, if a bit naïve.
