Description

The Public Theater Off-Broadway Minimum weekly salary level TBA.
Author: Suzan-Lori Parks
Director: James Macdonald
1st rehearsal: January 26, 2010. Runs March 2 – April 4, 2010 in the Anspacher Theatre. May extend to April 25.
Portrait of a family shattered by rage, revenge, power and betrayal. When a young man returns home to South Texas to confront his father, everyday life erupts into a battle for personal survival. At once fiercely intimate and explosive, the play weaves the story of three people bound together by love and longing, passion and ambition. (Note: This play was formerly titled SNAKE, and was listed under that title in an earlier AEA casting notice.)
Seeking:
Vet: AVAILABLE. Mid 50s - mid 60s. Military type. Physically fit. Love of order. Clear opinion of right and wrong. Strong, palpable, sexual energy. Lots of edge. Vigilant. The kind of man who doesn’t have to work for power; he just has it. Patrols and protects his home and the things he believes are his with the same intensity with which he watches the country’s border. Could be doing a lot more than being a border patrol, but probably never will.
Buddy:M AVAILABLE. Mid 20s - mid 30s. Returning veteran. Young. Moody. Strong sexual energy. Physically fit. Potentially volatile, but something about him could also convince you he that he was capable of being gentle. Capable of stillness, but always there is a sense of tautness underneath; being alert and ready. Something wiry and restless to him that’s more internal. Type that could be mistaken for a harmless garter snake until you pick him up, which then could be too late. Theatre states that it is particularly interested in casting this role as a person of color.
Grace: CAST (Elizabeth Marvel). Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary. Mid 30s - mid 40s. Grounded but dreamy; spacey, sexy. A waitress who should be doing more with her life, but can’t figure out how.
