PLAYBILL.COM'S CUE & A: Joanna Gleason

By Ernio Hernandez

Joanna Gleason

Joanna Gleason — who co-stars in Off-Broadway's Something You Did — fills out Playbill.com's questionnaire with random facts, backstage trivia and pop culture tidbits.

Full given name: Joanna Hall (Gleason as of 1975 marriage)
Hometown: born in Toronto, Canada, live in Connecticut
Audition song: "What Did I Have That I Don't Have" (for 1st B'way show)
Special skills: I'm the company doctor (unofficial)
First Broadway show ever saw: How to Succeed
If you could go back in time and catch any Broadway show, what would it be? Streetcar Named Desire
Current show you have been recommending to friends: Sunday in the Park with George
Favorite show tune: "Fable" from The Light in the Piazza
Most played song on your iPod: "Goldberg Variations" or "A Change Gonna Come"
One CD you couldn't live without: EP by Aaron David Gleason (on iTunes)
Last book you read: "Case Histories" by Kate Atkinson
Must-see TV show: "Top Chef"
Last good movie you saw: "The Band's Visit"
Favorite board game: Backgammon
Performer you would drop everything to go see: Natalie Dessay
Pop culture guilty pleasure: Page Six
First stage kiss: Can't remember, but I loved it
Favorite post-show meal: Spaghetti and meatballs
How you got your Equity card: Flew to Oakland, California, auditioned for Promises, Promises, told them I was Equity, flew back, got the job, took the contract to Equity
Worst onstage mishap: Outdoor amphitheatre, changing from boy Rosalind to girl Rosalind in As You Like It, long gown, running from upstage trees, ran up the front of my dress from the inside and got shorter and shorter until I was a dwarf.
Worst costume ever: Without mentioning names, it was one that was made of the same fabric as a couch I sat on for an entire scene. I disappeared. It was the leading lady's idea, I think.
Favorite cereal: Honey Nut Cheerios
Worst job you ever had: Selling stuffed fruit
Who would play you in the movie? Catherine Keener
What roles were most rewarding? Each brought something amazing and important to my life. Each was a passport stamp. No regrets.
