PLAYBILL.COM'S CUE & A: Jenn Colella

By Ernio Hernandez
20 Feb 2008

Jenn Colella

Jenn Colella — who co-stars in the Off-Broadway play Beebo Brinker Chronicles — fills out Playbill.com's questionnaire with random facts, backstage trivia and pop culture tidbits.

Full given name: Jennifer Lin Colella
Hometown: Summerville, SC
Zodiac sign: I'm on the cusp of Virgo/Libra
Audition song: "I've Been Here Before" from Closer Than Ever
Special skills: Hoop Dancing, Spinning Poi, and I can sound exactly like a bicycle horn.
First Broadway show ever saw: I didn't see one until I was in high school. Phantom of the Opera — I went nuts for it.
If you could go back in time and catch any Broadway show, what would it be? Funny Girl with Babs
Current show you have been recommending to friends: August: Osage County
Favorite show tune: "Paris Through The Window" from A Class Act
Most played song on your iPod: "Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay," Otis Redding
One CD you couldn't live without: Nina Simone, "After Hours"
Last book you read: Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat Pray Love"
Must-see TV show: "Weeds"
Favorite card game: Strip Poker
Pop culture guilty pleasure: "Real World/Road Rules Challenge" (please don't tell anyone)
First stage kiss: Matt Cavenaugh (Urban Cowboy). Lots of tongue, until I tamed him. Then it was awesome.
Favorite post-show meal: Vynl's BLT and Nutty Tai Milkshake with extra chocolate ice cream
Worst onstage mishap: When I played Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz at a summer rep theatre in California (only about six years ago): The mishap occurred during the scene where I'm supposed to grab a bucket of water to throw on the Wicked Witch to melt her. There was no bucket. There was no water anywhere, in fact. The next line was, "I'm melting!" and she couldn't very well do it on her own, so she just stared helplessly at me. I ran into the wings and frantically spouted, "There's no water! I need water!!" More helpless staring ensued. I then grabbed my own (nearly empty) personal water bottle and ran back on stage. I then "sprinkled" the Wicked Witch with a few measly droplets from my oh-so-period plastic water bottle, and through the magic of theatre, she finally dissolved.
Worst costume ever: A smelly, oversized bunny costume when I did children's theatre, back in the day.
Cats or dogs? Dogs. I've a 13-year-old dachshund named Ploof, whom I cherish.
Favorite cereal: Honey Nut Cheerios
Who would play you in the movie? I hope I get to do it! But if I'm not available, Hillary Swank.
Worst job you ever had: A supervisor for the national call center of a huge insurance company
What leading lady role have you been dying to play? Sally Bowles in Cabaret, Viola in Twelfth Night
