Dear Evan Hansen: The Novel, based on the Tony-winning Best Musical, hits bookshelves October 9, and the creators of the show—Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, and Steven Levenson—as well as co-author Val Emmich will embark on a ten-city book tour October 8–16. The quartet will present the new book and perform select songs at each destination.
The tour kicks off in New York City with special guest stars Tan France and Antoni Porowski of Netflix’s Queer Eye. This first event will also feature current Dear Evan Hansen Broadway cast member Alex Boniello, original Broadway cast members Will Roland and Rachel Bay Jones, plus Barrett Wilbert Weed and Mykal Kilgore.
Tony winner and 2016 Tony host James Corden will appear at the event in Los Angeles, along with actor Shoshana Bean. NPR’s Ari Shapiro will join the event in Washington, D.C.; Darren Criss joins the Ann Arbor event; and Kendra Kassenbaum will be featured at the Seattle stop.
The stage to page adaptation still follows Evan Hansen, the anxiety-ridden teen, as he is welcomed into the Murphy home after he lies and claims he was their son Connor’s secret best friend. As the lie snowballs, Dear Evan Hansen grapples with questions of morality, authenticity, coming-of-age, and “the struggle to belong in an age of instant connectivity and profound isolation.”
After the October 8 in New York City, the tour continues on (in chronological order) Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Ann Arbor, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. For full schedule details and to purchase tickets to any of the events, click here.
